USPA NEWS - An extraordinary summit will take place on February 24 in Brussels, bringing together the 27 leaders, and where President Macron will be present, knowing that France is presiding over the Council of Europe for 6 months.The President of the European Council has convened a special meeting of the European Council to discuss the situation in Ukraine following Russia's military aggression and violation of international law as well as territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine. »The use of force and coercion to change borders has no place in the 21st century. » Charles Michel, Chief of European Councli declared.
The EU has acted in a swift, united and determined manner in solidarity with Ukraine, including through the adoption of a sanctions package on 23 February.
During the special meeting of the European Council, EU leaders will discuss:
• latest developments
• protection of the rules-based international order
• how to hold Russia accountable for its actions
• further support to Ukraine and its people

THE E.U ADOPTED SANCTIONS AGAINST RUSSIA--------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Council today adopted on a package of measures to respond to the decision by the Russian Federation to proceed with the recognition of the non-government controlled areas of the Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts of Ukraine as independent entities, and the subsequent decision to send Russian troops into these areas.----------------------------------------------------------- The European Union on Wednesday sanctioned the Russian defense minister and military chiefs, the head of the Kremlin administration, the boss of Russia Today television and the spokesperson for the foreign ministry for their involvement in the recognition separatist regions of Ukraine. The European measures consist of a travel ban and an asset freeze in the EU. They strike a total of 23 "leading personalities", three banks, a company and 351 members of the Duma. Adopted by EU foreign ministers on Tuesday, they entered into force on Wednesday evening with the publication of identities and functions in the EU's official journal." Source: European Council
