Today, Chairman of the Cultural Committee Kristian Anderson and ICORN Director Helge Lunde meets to sign the ICORN membership agreement at the Helsingborg Culture House, Dunkers.
Kristian Anderson says that he is pleased that Helsingborg now joins the more than 50 cities of the network, to stand up for freedom of expression and democracy by hosting persecuted writers and artists.-------------------------------------------------------
Helsingborg is the 18th Swedish city to join ICORN, confirming its commitment to solidarity, hospitality and freedom of expression. Helge Lunde says: " We welcome warmly Helsingborg´s decision to join our network of now 57 ICORN cities of refuge around the world. The need for more cities is precarious. The situation of freedom of speech is sadly by not no means improving, and more and more writers and artists are turning to ICORN for a residency. 17 cities in Sweden are already doing an amazing job hosting, protecting and promoting writers and artist who are unable to express themselves freely in their own countries. We are convinced that Helsingborg will contribute greatly and look forward to future collaboration.
