The French Minster of Culture, Rachdia Dati, unveils the first hundreds (100) religious buildings to benefit from the national collection, amid European Heritage days.
“National collection for religious heritage: Ms. Rachida DATI, Minister of Culture, unveils the list of the first 100 buildings which will benefit from the national collection in favor of the religious heritage of the villages of France.
In September 2023, on the occasion of European Heritage Days, the President of the Republic announced the launch of the national collection in favor of religious heritage. Its aim is to support small municipalities of less than 10,000 inhabitants, and less than 20,000 inhabitants in the overseas territories, in the preservation of their religious buildings. In September 2023, on the occasion of European Heritage Days, the President of the Republic announced the launch of the national collection in favor of religious heritage. selecting the winning buildings, in conjunction with the regional directorates of cultural affairs (DRAC) for historical monuments.
Among the 100 winning buildings, nearly 50% of them are located in towns with fewer than 1,000 inhabitants, 60% are not protected as historic monuments, and 55% are closed to the public or in danger.
The financing requirement to save these 100 buildings is 15 million euros. To date, 2.3 million euros have been collected from 12,000 donors. Collection is therefore continuing on the Heritage Foundation website to collect the missing 12.7 million euros.
Across the national territory, 5,000 religious buildings are in a state of health that raises fears for their sustainability and require urgent intervention.

To finance this work, the national collection for religious heritage benefits from an increased tax deduction rate for individuals of 75% up to €1,000, like the subscription for Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral.
Ms. Rachida DATI declares: “The outpouring of generosity sparked by the fire at Notre-Dame de Paris demonstrated the attachment of the French to their religious heritage. Today, all the churches in France need this generosity. It is the condition for the preservation of this local heritage par excellence, which is part of the essential landscape of all municipalities in France. »
