Israel – Telephone conversation between Ms. Catherine Colonna and her Israeli counterpart

April 3, 2023
Ms. Catherine Colonna, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, spoke by telephone today with her Israeli counterpart, Mr. Eli Cohen.
The Minister recalled the old and sincere friendship that binds our two countries and France's unwavering attachment to Israel's security.

Ministers reviewed the latest developments in the region, first and foremost the threat emanating from Iran, which continues its destabilizing activities. Ms. Colonna and Mr. Cohen also discussed French and Israeli efforts to deal with the consequences of Russia's war of aggression in Ukraine on the international stage.

Faced with the deterioration of the situation in the West Bank and the rise of tensions in Jerusalem, the Minister recalled the need to refrain from any unilateral measure, particularly in the area of colonization, and to respect the commitments made recently in Aqaba and in Sharm el-Sheikh. She also stressed the urgency of restoring a political horizon to achieve peace between Israelis and Palestinians, within the framework of two States, living side by side in peace and security and stressed the need to preserve the historic status quo on the Holy Places in Jerusalem. In this context, the Minister recalled France's condemnation of all attacks against civilians.
