The President of the Republic congratulated his three interlocutors for their efforts and their determination which made it possible to conclude this historic agreement. He also praised the mediation of the United States. This is undeniably an important step towards more peace for Israel, for Lebanon and all the countries and peoples of the region. It will contribute to the stability of the Middle East and the security of Israel and Lebanon.
This agreement, which will allow the exploration and exploitation of gas resources off the Lebanese and Israeli coasts, should also contribute to the prosperity of both countries.
It offers an example for the region of the positive effects of a shared desire to achieve a result within the framework of demanding and respectful negotiations.
The Israeli Prime Minister as well as President AOUN and the Lebanese Prime Minister thanked the Head of State for his contribution and that of France to the conclusion of this agreement in the interest of the two friendly countries which are, for us, Israel and Lebanon.
The President of the Republic told his interlocutors that it was now up to all the players to implement this historic agreement. France will play its full part in this, in confidence with its partners. » Source Elysee, French Presidency.
