Launching an action plan in favour of animal welfare for livestock and pets

USPA NEWS - Minister Le Foll chaired today the "animal welfare" of the National Advisory Board of animal and plant health policy (CNOPSAV) to validate the 2016-2020 action plan in favor of animal welfare. The Minister praised the collaborative development with professionals of this plan.

The plan approved by the Minister consists of 20 priority actions are focused on research and innovation, accountability of all professionals and especially to the slaughterhouse, and the sharing of information with the citizens but also with the industry partners. Among concrete actions, Stéphane Le Foll particularly welcomes the development of an experimental method today sexing embryos in the egg that will be public support of around EUR 4.3 million . Research, innovation, as setting data sharing with the establishment of a national reference center on animal welfare by the end of 2016 are among the priority levers of progress of this plan.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------THE PROPOSALS OF THE ACTION PLAN OF AGRICULTURE MINISTRY---------------------------------The Minister presented his proposals for improving the system with slaughterhouses, including the establishment of an animal welfare referent in all slaughterhouses, prevention of acts of animal suffering, the creation of an offense of abuse animals in slaughterhouses and during transport, the establishment by the summer of better protection of employees reporting these acts of abuse by whistleblower status. Stephane Le Foll welcome the collective work that has lead to the development of this ambitious and concrete action plan for animal welfare is an action priority of his ministry.
