Mother of media mogul Rupert Murdoch dies at age 103

USPA News - Dame Elisabeth Murdoch, a prominent Australian philanthropist and the mother of News Corporation Chairman and CEO Rupert Murdoch, died at her garden estate outside of Melbourne on Wednesday evening. She was 103 years old.
Dame Elisabeth, who devoted her life to helping others, died peacefully at her home at the Cruden Farm garden estate near Melbourne while surrounded by family members. She is survived by 77 direct descendants, including 50 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. "We have lost the most wonderful mother but we are all grateful to have had her love and wisdom for so many years," said her son Rupert Murdoch. "Throughout her life, our mother demonstrated the very best qualities of true public service. Her energy and personal commitment made our country a more hopeful place and she will be missed by many." Rupert Murdoch added that his mother, who contributed to more than 100 charities each year, would be mourned by "countless thousands of Australians" whose lives she had touched. Dame Elisabeth was mother to four children, including Rupert, Anne Kantor, Janet Calvert-Jones, and Helen Handbury who died in 2004. Dame Elisabeth`s funeral will be private, her family said.
