British Archaeologist Nicholas Reeves theorises that Tutankhamun, who died at the age of 19 (3,000 years ago ), may have been rushed into an outer chamber of what was originally Nefertiti´s tomb. The remains of Tutankhamun, who may have been her son, were found in 1922.

Nefertiti was the first wife of Akhenaten, who unsuccessfully attempted to switch Egypt to an early form of monotheism. Akhenaten was succeeded by a pharaoh referred to as Smenkhare and then Tut, who is widely believed to have been Akhenaten´s son.
Radar scans had never previously been conducted in the tomb, and they represent a crucial step in the investigation. For the first time, specialists have collected data about both the material structure of the walls and the open spaces behind them. It´s these spaces that are most intriguing“”they could contain artifacts and possibly even burial goods that rival those found with Tutankhamun. (National Geographic)
Dr Reeves developed his theory after the Spanish artistic and preservation specialists, Factum Arte, were commissioned to produce detailed scans of Tutankhamun's tomb. The scans were then used to produce a facsimile of the 3,300-year-old tomb near the site of the original Valley of the Kings in Luxor. (BBC)

This is the second find to be announced this week. On Tuesday, the antiquities minister, Mamdouh el-Damati said the Austrian Archaeological Institute had discovered a giant fence dating back more than 3,500 years at the site of another ancient capital city, Avaris. The sandstone fence is least 500 metres long and seven metres thick. (The Guardian)
