The Red Arrows, are one of the top aerobatic teams in the world. Their team motto is "Excellence", and displays speed, precise maneuvers, and an impeccable team spirit in every performance.
Recognized throughout the world by their red, white and blue exhaust trails, the Reds are not only ambassadors for the United Kingdom, but also the face of the Royal Air Force. The Red Arrows have performed thousands of thrilling aerobatical displays in nearly 60 countries, and 2024 marks their 60th season.
The Red Arrows last visited Nova Scotia in 2019. Halifax was the first stop on their North American tour. Though the stop was just for fuel and maintenance, they conducted several practice sessions along with numerous fly pasts over the region. I did have a chance to speak with their Public Affairs Officer and also had a media tour surrounding the maintenance process. All supporting photos are from that event.
The 2024 "Maple Hawk" Tour will commence in the second-half of August and will include: Air Show Atlantic in Greenwood, Nova Scotia, Canadian International Air Show in Toronto, Ontario, Airshow London in London, Ontario, and Aero Gatineau-Ottawa in Quebec.
In a statement released on the Royal Air Force website,
British High Commissioner to Canada, Susannah Goshko, had this to say: “It’s fantastic that on the 100th anniversary of the RCAF, the Red Arrows have chosen to come to Canada to celebrate our shared military ties.
In their own 60th Anniversary year, the Red Arrows tour across Canada will be both a joy to watch and a fantastic way to highlight the close and enduring relationship between our two Air Forces.”
Lieutenant-General E.J. Kenny, Commander, Royal Canadian Air Force, said: “I am thrilled the Royal Air Force Red Arrows will join the Royal Canadian Air Force this summer as we celebrate the RCAF Centennial and we look forward to the Red Arrows’ impressive performances.
The Red Arrows’ participation in select air shows in Canada not only underscores the strength of our enduring relationship with the Royal Air Force, but promises Canadians an incredible showcase of precision and flying skill.
With 2024 marking the Centennial of the RCAF, we invite all Canadians to join the festivities by participating in Centennial events and activities taking place across the country.”
There has been a lot of excitement in Greenwood, Nova Scotia since Air Show Atlantic announced that it would be returning to 14 Wing CFB Greenwood on August 24th and 25th, 2024. This is the first time since 2019 that the air show will grace the Annapolis Valley community. Air Show Atlantic has already announced an impressive list of confirmed performers which include the CF-18 Demonstration Team, the Canadian Forces Snowbirds, and the United States F-16 Viper Demonstration Team. With each new performer announcement the excitement continues to intensify creating an optimistic buzz throughout the air show community. Some predict that the last weeks announcement of the RAF Red Arrorw performing at 14 Wing Greenwood, along with the already exciting line up, that Air Show Atlantic 2024 may be the most memorable air show in decades.
With the Royal Canadian Air Force celebrating their 100th anniversary and the Royal Air Force Red Arrows Celebrating their 60th, what better way to honour these milestones than to witness displays of aerobatic skill that will be imprinted in the audiences memory and talked about for many generations to come.
