USPA NEWS - The MV Confederation service will resume Saturday, July 1st with the following four round-trip daily operating schedule until MV Saaremaa 1 enters service:
Departing Wood Islands, Prince Edward Island: 07:00, 10:00, 15:00, 18:00.
Departing Caribou, Nova Scotia: 08:30, 11:45, 16:30, 19:30.
On June 19, 2023 USPA 24 News reported that on Friday, June 16th, the MV Confederation which is currently the only ferry providing service between Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island developed a mechanical issue causing Northumberland Ferries Limited to suspend service until further notice. At that time It was believed the vessel wouldn't be ready to resume service until mid-July because a replacement part wasn't stocked anywhere in the world and had to be manufactured. This left many passengers scrambling to make other travel arrangements and forced many to use the Confederation Bridge which in a lot of cases caused more driving and inconvenience. A statement issued by NFL on Friday, June 30th, 2023 advised that service on the MV Confederation would be restored on July 1st, just in time for Canada Day.
The following statement was posted to the Northumberland Ferries Limited Facebook page, "Northumberland Ferries Limited is advising that the MV Confederation will resume service Saturday, July 1, 2023. With great cooperation from the supplier and all supporting agencies, the new part has been delivered, installed and tested, and the vessel is now cleared for safe return to service. The second vessel for the 2023 peak operating season, MV Saaremaa 1, is currently in drydock in Quebec. The Saaremaa 1 is scheduled to arrive in PEI in early July and will enter service by July 15. We understand the importance of the two ships being in service during peak season and will do everything possible to get MV Saaremaa 1 into service as soon as we can safely do so. The arrival of MV Saaremaa 1 will enable us to operate at traditional peak season service levels."
